• Chinook: Chinook - Emergency Downtime
  May 22, 2013 2:54 PM - Yesterday morning, May 21, we took Chinook down to fix a security vulnerability. We did not announce the outage in advance, since we considered it important not to advertise that the system was vulnerable. We apologize for the inconvenience. This is a reminder that Chinook will be unavailable during its regularly scheduled monthly maintenance window beginning at 0800 (PDT) on Tuesday, April 16 until later in the day to apply security and system updates.   March 13, 2013 10:29 AM - The scheduling pause will occur at 0800 PDT on Tuesday 3/19/13 instead of 3/21 as listed in the previous message.
• Chinook: Chinook - Scheduled Downtime
  March 13, 2013 10:25 AM - Greetings. Our regularly scheduled monthly outage for next Tuesday, 3/21/13 will not occur. But we do need to reboot some of our support servers and scheduling jobs will be paused from 0800 to 1000 on 3/21/13. Currently running jobs will continue to run. Users may notice a momentary hiccup in being able to submit jobs, but if a job submission fails, please just resubmit it. New jobs just won't start during the scheduling pause. • Chinook: Chinook - Scheduled Downtime
  January 28, 2013 2:56 PM - Greetings. Please note that our February monthly outage will happen on the second Tuesday of the month, the 12th instead of the regularly scheduled outage on the 19th. We intend to upgrade the operating system (OS) on Chinook to Scientific Linux 6, during the scheduled maintenance outage on February 12. The new operating system has been installed on the nodes on cu12 nodes and is available for testing prior to the outage. We have conducted quite a few tests and we believe that the new OS should run existing codes and jobs. We would like to allow any interested users to submit and test jobs on this partition over the next couple of weeks, to ensure a smooth transition to the new configuration. If you'd like to submit a job so that it runs on the nodes with Scientific Linux 6, you can add "-l qos=SL6" to the command line of your msub command, or you can add the following to your job submission script: #MSUB -l qos=SL6 Thats a minus lower case "ell" not a one in both methods. In either case, this will force your job to use cu12 nodes with the new operating system. Please send e-mail to mscf-consulting@emsl.pnl.gov if you have any questions.

  December 03, 2012 2:20 PM - This is a reminder that Chinook will be unavailable beginning at 0700 (PST) on Tuesday, Dec. 11 until later that day to apply security and system updates and to allow for facility power off needs. Please note that this outage is occurring the second Tuesday of December, not the regularly scheduled third Tuesday. This is because of the approaching holidays and because we did not take our monthly outage in November. Please send e-mail to mscf-consulting@emsl.pnl.gov if you have any questions.
