Fellowships and Awards
EMSL seeks to attract new highly qualified users and honor the major contributions through Fellowships and Awards. The Wiley Visiting Scientist Program is designed to enable distinguished scientists to spend extended periods of time at EMSL focusing on their research and helping to plan or develop EMSL capabilities. The William Wiley Post Doctoral Fellowship gives highly qualified PhD scientists the opportunity to conduct creative original research using EMSL capabilities. The Wiley Research Fellow Program recognizes scientists who make significant contributions to EMSL and offers them a role that allows them to help determine EMSL's future directions. Outstanding achievements by an EMSL postdoctoral fellow are honored annually with the MT Thomas Award.
Wiley Visiting Scientist Program
The Wiley Visiting Scientist Program recognizes, rewards, and encourages distinguished scientists to come to EMSL for extended periods of time and make significant contributions to the EMSL user program by providing input to and recommendations on the path forward for EMSL. Wiley Visiting Scientists can actively contribute to the success of EMSL by participating on partner proposals to develop new capabilities, mentoring EMSL staff, and assisting in long-term facility planning.
Wiley Research Fellow Program
The Wiley Research Fellow Program recognizes researchers who make significant contributions to EMSL outside of their individual research efforts. Wiley Research Fellows can actively contribute to EMSL decision-making processes by serving on advisory committees, participating on partner proposals for new capability development, acting as a scientific consultant for users, advocating EMSL and its capabilities in the scientific community, as well as assisting and supporting a broad range of EMSL user activities.
William Wiley Postdoctoral Fellowship
The William Wiley Postdoctoral Fellowship is designed to attract high-performing, newly graduated junior PhD scientists who have the potential to become full time scientific staff at EMSL. The fellowship is named after a former director of the Pacific Northwest National Laboratory and visionary leader of EMSL.
MT Thomas Award
The MT Thomas Award honors the outstanding accomplishments of a postdoctoral fellow annually. Nominations are solicited every January, and the MT Thomas Award recipient is given a plaque and cash award and asked to hold a seminar describing their research.
