I'm especially excited about this year's annual call for proposals from the scientific community. For the first time, we are able to offer our users access to one of the world's best collections of microscopes in a specialized 'quiet' facility and to our new Radiochemistry Annex that opens in phases this year – coupled with the nearly 30 Recovery Act-funded instruments we brought online last year. We have the right space and the right instruments – now we need the right science that will take greatest advantage of these new facilities and capabilities. We've begun working with many of you on projects leveraging these resources – and hope to have even more through the call for proposals that opens in February. I'm eager to see your proposals and to partner with you in new discoveries in the coming year. - Allison |
Wiley Visiting Scientist Program deadlines are quarterly. EMSL is accepting applications for the Wiley Visiting Scientist Program with the next deadline of April 30. In addition to conducting their own research, Wiley visiting scientists are expected to actively contribute to the success of EMSL beyond their own specific research projects. 2012 Call for Proposals will open February 2012. Watch your inbox for an early announcement! See the Quiet Wing. EMSL Director Allison Campbell talked with Scott Lea, microscopy capability lead, about the new Quiet Wing and its significance to science and to the user program. Watch [EMSL's YouTube channel] to learn more about the Quiet Wing and how it will enhance users' research. Look for EMSL at ACS' Chemistry of Life. EMSL scientists and staff are participating in the American Chemical Society Spring 2012 National Meeting & Exposition in San Diego March 25-29. Visit us at booth #1136. Let us know if you're participating at the ACS spring meeting so we can highlight your work on the Web and at our booth. Send your information to emslcom@pnnl.gov. In first quarter fiscal 2012, 394 users benefited from EMSL capabilities and expertise. This total includes 300 onsite and 94 remote users. ![]() To learn about the achievements of EMSL in the first quarter of fiscal 2012, visit our News Center.
