Scientists who publish results of research using EMSL resources and capabilities are required to do the following.
Additional Information
- Include an acknowledgment of EMSL in any publications, including but not limited to journal articles, presentations, reports, proceedings, and book chapters, resulting from work performed here.
- For routine research, please use:
- "(A portion of) The research was performed using EMSL, a national scientific user facility sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research and located at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory."
- For special projects or programs, please also reference the specific project or program (see examples below).
- "(A portion of) The research is part of the Chemical Imaging Initiative at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory (PNNL). It was conducted under the Laboratory Directed Research and Development Program at PNNL, a multi-program national laboratory operated by Battelle for the U.S. Department of Energy under Contract DE-AC05-76RL01830. The work was performed at EMSL, a national scientific user facility sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research and located at PNNL."
- "(A portion of) The research is part of the "Making Isoprene from Biomass Material using Bacillus Species" Research Campaign at EMSL, a national scientific user facility sponsored by the Department of Energy's Office of Biological and Environmental Research and located at PNNL."
- For routine research, please use:
EMSL staff as co-authors
EMSL staff often provide major contributions to research carried out by EMSL users. Our staff may have an important scientific role in the conceptualizing, planning and implementation of experiments, and in the enhancement of results by way of their management of samples, analysis and interpretation of data, or full collaboration on the project. When this happens, EMSL users should include the EMSL staff person as a co-author on papers. They and we appreciate the recognition of their scientific contributions.
Note that if a Pacific Northwest National Laboratory or EMSL staff member is listed as a co-author, primary authors are required to notify the staff member prior to submission so that the publication can be reviewed and processed through PNNL's clearance system.
