Contracted Time

Submit Letter of Intent

Contracted time refers to requests to use designated time available on instruments outside of EMSL’s advertised calls for proposals. Access does not include EMSL staff support for instrument operation or analysis. Teams must either demonstrate sufficient expertise to operate instruments without assistance or special supervision, or plan to provide funding via a contract mechanism (PNNL charge code or subcontract number) to cover EMSL staff support requested after the initial orientation. A small hour cost will be associated with some instrument usage. For expert users conducting routine, publishable research, EMSL will continue to provide site and safety training. Access is granted for up to one fiscal year or the contract period as appropriate. The research should involve well-established techniques in which EMSL has proven capability and established workflows.

Time on the following instruments is available to contract.

Review criteria

Contracted time proposals undergo a technical evaluation to ensure the proposal only involves well-established techniques in which EMSL has proven capability and established workflows.  Proposals are also reviewed for worker safety, health, environmental, biological, radiological, export control, and counter-intelligence concerns.
